Wilhelm H. Bauer Collection
Scope and Contents
The Wilhem H. Bauer Collection contains objects from a medical doctor and Director of Pathology at Saint Louis University’s Dental School. Born to a Jewish mother, Bauer immigrated to the United States after Nazi persecution and accepted a position at Saint Louis University. Bauer was also known for his friendship with Kurt von Schuschnigg, chancellor of Austria in the 1930s and a friend from Innsbruck whom Bauer invited to teach at Saint Louis University in the 1940s. The collection contains photographs, correspondence, and personal items from Bauer revealing his relationship with Schuschnigg and his time in Innsbruck, including a German Reich passport and a holy water vessel.
