Magnaghi, Russell, 1966-1979
Scope and Contents
These letters exchanged by Bannon and his student Magnaghi were donated to the Archives by Magnaghi and appended to the material forming the bulk of this collection. The two men discuss Magnaghi's dissertation research and his professional life, including his job search. Included is a letter from Magnaghi to John R. Myers, president of the history honor society Phi Alpha Theta at the University, in which he ruminates on Bannon's helpfulness to students. In his letter of September 9, 1978 Bannon complains about the editing that was done on his biography of Herbert E. Bolton: "I just gave up and determined to settle for a reasonably recognizable Bolton, emerging from the minds of people who knew him not at all but determined to tell the story their way."
