Sarajevo 1992 1993 1994 1995, 1996
Description
Illustrated print map of Sarajevo (mapa opsade) with paper band.
Ozren Pavlović's illustraions capture the city in the Miljacka River valley with artillery, tanks, and mortars positioned on the surrounding high ground. The map marks the most deadly areas, including "Sniper Alley," a main boulevard where civilians were frequently targeted, and uses circles and crosshairs identify the most dangerous zones. The map also details the networks that formed underground, documenting passages, safe corridors used to evade gunfire, and the Dobrinja-Butmir Tunnel, which served as the city's secret lifeline. The illustrations show how citizens survived and maintained essential facilities year after year depicting medieval lamps, hand-made stoves, vegetable and corn gardens in city parks, and water canisters filled at designated safe points.
