 Collection
Identifier: DOC  MSS 36

Scope and Contents

The Robert J. Henle Manuscript Collection offers insight into Henle's beliefs and activities as educator, philosopher, and social critic. The collection contains items covering the entire span of Henle's life, although much of the material dates from his return to Saint Louis University in 1976 following his resignation as president of Georgetown University in Washington, D. C. The largest series is Subject Files, composed of the contents of folders stored together by Henle. Included here are copies of his talks, papers, and articles as well as numerous letters to the editor on such topical issues as abortion, American policy in Central America, energy, sex education, and federal support to private schools.

The Classes series includes syllabi, copies of tests, lists of student assignments, and student papers from classes taught by Henle at Saint Louis University in areas such as metaphysics, philosophy, jurisprudence, and business and corporation ethics. The Works series contains manuscripts and published versions of books and articles along with notes for talks, papers, and articles by Henle. The Personalia series consists of clippings on Henle's career as well as his autobiography, resumes, and activity reports. Here, too, are medical records and address books.
