These non-current records of the Phi Beta Kappa, Gamma of Missouri Chapter at Saint Louis University contain the history and chronicle the activities of the Chapter from its inception in 1968 to the present. Included are Chapter correspondence, minutes, treasurer's records, membership cards and the membership book signed each year by new initiates, background material on the history and role of Phi Beta Kappa, etc.



The Background Material Series, containing information on the history and role of Phi Beta Kappa in its national context as well as the enabling documents of the Gamma Chapter, is open to researchers. Permission to access the rest of the collection must be sought from the President of the Gamma of Missouri Chapter. As far as possible, the original organization of material dating from before the 1994-1995 academic year has been maintained. Documents such as treasurer's records, annual reports, citations for honorary and alumni membership, and initiation programs have been kept together, followed by the rest of the records arranged as a chronological series. At the suggestion of Jeannette Pierce, longtime Chapter Secretary, records from 1994-1995 on have all been arranged chronologically by year and further divided into such subseries as Minutes, Correspondence and General, Phi Beta Kappa Association, Endowed Chairs Lectures, etc.



The final box in the collection includes records from the current year as well as financial records for the past 7 years. The latter are discarded periodically. None of this material is described and no item count has been made. This box has not been counted as part of the total number of boxes in the collection.
