Chauncey Fleming Manuscript Collection [DOC MSS 45]
Scope and Contents
This collection documents the World War I military service of Missourian Chauncey Fleming. It gives a good picture of daily life at an army base in Texas where draftees were trained to be soldiers. Fleming apparently never went overseas. The collection consists of correspondence among Fleming, his fiancee Myrtle Dustman, and his family members. Also here are several photographs of Fleming and his army comrades. Fleming describes his daily training activities--drills, inspections, clerical and hospital work--as well as his leisure pursuits and his feelings about the war and his service.
