Pamphlets, 1865-1993
Scope and Contents
These pamphlets are arranged alphabetically by author, title, or topic,
chronologically thereafter. They reflect Cyril Clemens's wide-ranging interests in the
Catholic religion, politics, travel, and literature. Included are many items related to
St. Louis, such as: souvenirs of the Academy of the Visitation and the Carmelite
Convent; the Art Exhibit of Fashion for 1882; reproductions of O.E. Berninghaus's
historical paintings executed for Anheuser-Busch Brewery; a monograph on religious
painter and Saint Louis University graduate C. Bosseron Chambers; D.M. Frost's published
letter to General Sterling Price defending himself against the charge of desertion from
the Confederate Army; an account of the cyclone of 1896; Mary Hirschberg's work on
Richard Graham of Hazelwood; Oliver Parks's diary Flight to Destiny, which recounts John
Cardinal Glennon's last trip to Rome and his death; the history of The Round Table
Restaurant; a description of the St. Louis Exposition of 1888; and the membership list
of the Society of St. Louis Authors. There is also much information on George
Washington, tourist and historic sites in Missouri, Mark Twain, and the latter's town of
Hannibal, Missouri. Among several autographs are those of Edna Ferber, William H. and
Robert Taft, and John G. Tower.
