This series, arranged alphabetically by first letter of correspondent's last name (or first name, if last name is unknown) and chronologically thereafter, consists of professional and personal correspondence to and from the Spitzers. Many letters from the executives of organizations and publications are filed under the names of the groups if the correspondence is purely professional. There are many letters from schools to which Allen applied for teaching positions; if necessary, these have been filed under the "descriptive" part of the school's name. For example, correspondence from the University of Dayton is filed under D for Dayton, not under U for University. This seems to replicate Allen Spitzer's practice.
