Illustrations, circa 1900s-1920s
Scope and Contents
These original illustrations include several watercolor, ink, and pencil sketches by Florence Pretz Smalley, creator of the Billiken, dating from the 1900s to the 1920s. Many of these sketches were prototypes for projects that were unrealized and never published, but a number of others were later selected for publication in "The Canada-West Magazine" from 1907 to 1908, as well as other publications. Florence Pretz Smalley fequently collaborated with her friend, the writer Sara Hamilton Birchall. The illustrations also include pieces by her art teacher Floy Campbell, a sketch by her father, and other miscellaneous artwork.
