Scope and Contents

These items chronicle the daily affairs, decisions, and policies of the Department of Sociology at Saint Louis University as collected by Allen Spitzer during his teaching years.

Notable items include: a memo explaining a proposed program in hospital administration to be centered in the department (10-1-57); a proposal for a new doctoral program in anthropology that includes a recent history of that discipline at SLU (1-2-59); Allen Spitzer's progress report for June 1961 to January 31, 1962; a memo on promoting faculty participation in University administration (5-11-64); and Spitzer's progress report on his summer in Vienna in 1965 when he was doing research on civilization theory . Also here are department examination questions for the Ph. D., A. M., and A.B. levels in social anthropology (10-12-59), anthropology (10-20-62), and various sections of the sociology and anthropology disciplines (undated).
