Catholic Anthropological Conference, 1956-1961

 Sub-Series — Box: 5, Folder: 7
Identifier: 605-10-17

Scope and Contents

This material consists largely of communications dealing with planning for meetings of the Conference, including paper proposals.

Notable items include: letters commenting on SLU's underwriting of a special issue of the "Anthropological Quarterly" based on papers presented at the Institute on Social Anthropology held at the University in June 1958 and meant as a commemoration of the life and work of Robert Redfield (10-14 and 10-22-58, etc.); and a press release on a conference held at SLU in April 1961 on the theme "Religion and Culture" (4-5-61). Two letters refer to "shock" at Lillian Spitzer's "terrible accident" (11-29-56 and 12-13-56). Included here are personal letters to the Spitzers from Martha Lang and her mother Mimi that chronicle the beginning of the close friendship between the Lang and Spitzer families.
