Regional Publications

 Series — Multiple Containers
Identifier: 637-2

Scope and Contents

This series consists of zines, underground newspapers, pamphlets, booklets, event programs, and other self-published or limited-run publications with a generally anarchist, counterculture or underground focus. The series is arranged by region of publication, then alphabetically by title within each region. The publications are also organized chronologically within each title. This arrangement scheme was chosen due to Dr. Heathcott's interest in comparing cultural features of different cities and regions, and his roughly-established groupings of the material. Publications from midwestern states, particularly Illinois and Indiana, make up a substantial portion of this series, though there are also a signficant number that were published in New York and California. The publications are not strictly regional, as some were distributed nationally and internationally via mail order catalogs and other underground distribution outlets, but they typically had a much more limited run than the publications in series 1. Due to the nature of zines and the underground press, many items are undated, but appear from their content to have been published during the late 1980s and early-to-mid 1990s.
