Biography

James Ruel Meador, Sr. was a medical doctor who studied at the Saint Louis University School of Medicine and whose materials give insight into student life and coursework for medical students in the 1930s. Born in 1909, he was raised locally in Clayton, Missouri and later matriculated into Saint Louis University in the late 1920s. While in school, he participated in the ROTC and later served in the Navy as a captain during World War II. He was a member of SLU's medical fraternity Alpha Kappa Kappa and graduated from the School of Medicine in 1934.

During his career, he was a staff member at various local St. Louis hospital systems, including Missouri Baptist Hospital, Deaconess Hospital, and Christian Hospitals Northeast and Northwest. He also served as a member of several medical organizations, including St. Louis County Medical Society, the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Scoiety, and Missouri State Medical Association. He retired in 1969 and passed away from a heart condition in Creve Cour on July 7, 1991.
