Biography
Joseph and Mary Flori lived at 2541 Pennsylvania Avenue in Maplewood, Missouri, during World War One, where they received letters from their three sons in the military: August G. (Gus, Guss, Gussie), a Marine; Charles L., an infantryman; and Joseph C. (Joe), who was with the engineers. Before the war Charles had worked at Quickie Meal and Joseph had had a position with the Frisco Railroad. There may have been a younger brother called Emil, and there were several daughters, some of whom worked at Famous-Barr. Names mentioned include Bertha, Gilly (Mathilda), Anna, Rose, Gertrude, and Marie, who seems to have had a job at Aalco Laundry. One of the sons mentions in a letter that he told his army superiors about his parents' having been born in France, but the children appear to have been fluent in German instead of French. The sons all note that they cannot communicate with the French overseas.

This collection consists mainly of letters written to the folks at home in Maplewood, Missouri by three brothers serving in the military during World War One: August G., Charles L., and Joseph C. Flori. The men describe no combat experiences in their missives, but they do speak of their more routine activities at camps in America and later in service in France and Germany.
